⚠️ A Very Important Email!! ⚠️
? Your Playdate Game May Need To Be Updated! ?
Hello, Playdate Developer!
We should be releasing Playdate OS 2.0 on Monday next week! (That's June 12th, 2023)
We're telling you this because Playdate OS 2.0 includes some critical updates that affect games written in C and will require a little bit of work to run on our Rev B hardware.
The changes needed for OS 2.0 should only take a few minutes! We have not yet shipped Rev B hardware, but we will start shipping soon after OS 2.0 releases.
Here's the next step:
? Once OS 2.0 is released, we'll email you again, and at that point you should update your game with your new build right away.
If you did not receive our original email about OS 2.0, please read these two items:
① Update Your C Games For OS 2.0
OS 2.0 has a new .pdx file format in order to support some "Rev B" changes we've made to upcoming hardware. (And those changes were made to work around supply chain issues.) And OS 2.0 is coming very soon! So, take note:
? If your game includes any C code, you will need to recompile it with the new 2.0 SDK for it to run on the Rev B Playdate hardware.
If your game is written in Lua or Pulp, you don’t need to do anything. Your game will run just fine on every Playdate and OS version.
Finally, just FYI, any games compiled with the 2.0 SDK will no longer run on OS 1.0 — the user will get a nice error message saying they need to update their system. Similarly, if a user tries to run a 1.0 SDK-built C game on the Rev B hardware, they'll get an nice error message asking them to please update the game or contact the developer. Now you know!

② Add A New Icon For Launcher List View
People have a lot of games on their Playdates — more than we’d ever dreamed when we first conceived of the Launcher.
To make game collections easier to navigate, Playdate OS 2.0 includes a new List View! (You can even animate the icons!)
? Now is the time to support list view in your game by adding a custom list view icon.
